Five Critical Functions of AHSIA

• 1. Provide assistance and direction to healthcare services in the Americas. 
• 2. Provide assistance to unions in the expansion and reinforcement of their healthcare service network within their respective jurisdictions.
• 3. Integrate, enforce, and consolidate the following in InterAmerica: effective stewardship, good health culture, practices, regulations, and norms. 
• 4. Development of a more effective connection between Adventist healthcare services and Adventist communities.
• 5. Provide resources and opportunities for the ongoing enhancement of service quality, talent skill development, and institutional development and growth, including the establishment of partnerships with major institutions within or outside the global Adventist healthcare family.

Specific Goals

• 1.     In accordance with the SDA Church's philosophy, beliefs, and mission, and in accordance with the current best practices in healthcare delivery, establish, maintain, update, and enforce an appropriate model of healthcare policies (A MANUAL OF OPERATION OF SDA HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS).
• 2. Develop and implement General Healthcare governance principles in the form of a Board Manual and Procedures.  
• 3. Create and maintain a template of MEDICAL BYLAWS that can be adopted and modified by the Board of each institution to regulate the medical staff and their activities. 
• 4. Encourage and advise the Unions, local fields, and other relevant SDA church organizations in the development of all necessary healthcare institutions, including hospitals, health centers, dispensaries, medical, ophthalmological, and dental clinics, lifestyle centers, convalescent and retirement homes, and orphanages, with respect to the opening, closure and expansion of healthcare institutions..
• 5. Promote and facilitate technical, administrative, and professional exchanges and create enough avenues for all the institutions to work together on all relevant matters concerning their expansion and improvement..
• 6.     Promote, assist in the establishment, and coordination of a strong national SDA system in countries with multiple healthcare institutions, irrespective of the number of unions or local fields.
• 7. Encourage and support the hiring and training of essential staff members as needed.;
• 8. Establish and coordinate continuing education for the system, on top of the local systems that are already in place..
• 9. Enable and facilitate the coordination of all shared interests, including group purchasing, equipment standardization, servicing, and maintenance..
• 10.  Help and support consulting services for member institutions to do things like master planning, marketing strategies, analyzing financial trends, and other specialized work..
• 11.  Run throughout the system, a “Total Quality Health Care Program”, including regular evaluation.
• 12.  Research, negotiate and coordinate the best possible program of accreditation for all the hospitals, and make possible an adequate program of evaluation/accreditation for all the other types of healthcare institutions, in order to give them a competitive edge in their respective locations. 
• 13.  Develop or implement standardized administrative, medical, and financial reporting systems to enhance managerial, professional, and financial oversight, as well as to ensure the system's growth and development. 
• 14.  Ensure the oversight and/or provision of guidance on specialized matters, including the retirement plans of employees in the SDA healthcare sector, as well as general liability and professional liability coverage, in collaboration with the various governing bodies..
• 15.  Act as an official, but not the only, link between the member institutions and other North American and international health care systems and institutions.
